Make Your Own Tartar Sauce…

Making your own tartar sauce is easy…and  easily designed to your favorite flavors. I have yet to find a store brand tartar sauce with quite enough pickle relish…and it’s rare to find one with plenty of dill….the touch of lemon juice lightens the flavor…if you love the tang of capers, chop some up and add….and it just so happens all of these flavors are ones you’d want with your fish/seafood anyhow.

Here is mine:

  • 1/2 cup real mayonnaise
  • 3 Tbl favorite sweet pickle relish or chopped cornichons
  • 1 Tbl chopped fresh dill
  • 1 Tbl fresh lemon juice
  • dash of hot sauce like Tabasco

Mix it all together and cover tightly to store in refrigerator.  It will keep for weeks!  I find myself making up a batch of this tartar sauce whenever I’m making spanakopita, which only calls for a 1/2 bunch of fresh dill weed…whatever am I going to do with the remaining bunch of dill weed?  I chop it up and make a quick jar of homemade tartar sauce because I love lots of dill in mine!!!
